Rack Phase Difference

EFC’s RPD is designed to enhance stability and increase efficiency during jacking operations. The system can use the same Data Handling/Display module as the Pre-Load Tank Monitoring system, or can be added to it later, as budgets and operations dictate.

RPD monitors the operation of the jacking motors. Monitoring the electrical current of each motor gives an indication of its torque output, while comparing the torque of all motors provides an early rack phase difference alert. (HSE Safety Notice 4/2002 RPD). Supplementary monitoring of jacking pinion RPM is also available.

The data processing and display system allows the rig’s jacking operator to set alarms on individual motor torque output.

Additional sensors provide further information, to build a complete picture of the jacking operation: pinion load sensors, strategically positioned deck inclinometer sensors

Data can be archived on PC, (or ‘Black Box’ module), which can be interrogated allowing data to be analysed following serious jacking failures.
